we had an Amstrad email phone. this made a daily call to check for messages. Obviously we were charged for the calls. We have now disconnected the email phone and have plugged in an ordinary answer phone. Hopefully, bill we be less as calls for email should stop. Question is will they automatically stop as that phone is not plugged in anymore?.. i mean as our number is the same will we need to contact Amstrad. I am sure that it is still dialling for email even though it is not the email phone.. Am i daft ?

  1. No not a daft question in the slightest!

The Amstrad phone had a modem but in, that could be set to get e-mail messages, the default was once per day, but could be set to ever 4 hours, 2 hours, or 10 minutes!.

Now you have unplugged the handset, the modem has also been disconnected, so you will not see these calls on your bill anymore.

You do not need to contact anyone else, you have done all that's needed.

    Hope this helps?

  2. If you had a procedure to connect to system in the first place you will  have to contact to end system. I suggest you phone them for clarification.

  3. no you are not daft just play safe and put your mind at ease and contact amstrad lol

  4. I see what you mean - is there a way you can check online to ee if your account is being debited for this daily call ?

However, as the phone is not plugged in, I don't see how you can be charged for the call - suggest you inform BT, or whoever your phone provider is, that you no longer have this phone.  Maybe you could even bar the number ?  That way you could prove that the calls were not made by you.

You could also write to Amstrad (proper letter, not email or phone call) informing them that their phone is disconnected.  For things like this, old fashioned letters are more effective in my opinion

  5. I think, there is a need to contact the customer care department of the company, and seek a resolution number, on telephone ... or some "similar procedure," followed in your country.

  6. We had an Amstrad phone so understand what you mean.

We unplugged it, went and got an ordinary phone and no further action was necessary.

Had no more bills re the Amstrad.

    No ,you're not daft chuck.

  7. No, you're not daft!

We had the same phone but got annoyed with all the adverts popping up and also the dialling for emails which seemed to be happening more than once a day.

Now that you have plugged in an ordinary phone/answerphone, you should have no further problems as it was only the Amstrad phone dialling for emails, this will not happen with an ordinary phone/answerphone.
