How do people get labeled a serial killer?

i obviously know that they murdered people, but does there have to be a certain amount or anything?

i once saw a documentary on the green river killer and he had killed like 70 some women, but not all serial killers kill that many people.

i'm just curious and not going to kill anyone.

  1. Well to get that label you have to kill more than one person.

  2. You would have to kill more than one person to earn that label.

  3. A serial killer is a person who has killed intentionally more than once, AND also generally has a specific sort of victim they tend to seek out, and uses the same or similar methods for killing said victim...AND someone who also get psychological gratification for killing those people. All of those factors contribute to what's considered a serial killer...but there are other factors. See link below.

There are people who may have killed more than one person, but who are not necessarily serial killers, nor should be classed as such.

Cases of family or interpersonal relationship murder-suicide would not be considered serial killings, nor would any killings that happened in the case of warfare or combat or as a result of terrorism...or multiple deaths caused in say a bus or train accident.

  4. a serial killer is classified when they kill at least 3 different people on 3 different times

  5. I could not tell you.     I just know that they have to kill more than once in the general same area.
