This may sound stupid, but I was wondering where to find the date of issue on a Kennedy half dollar?

the one I have says 1776 - 1976, so is it 1976?

The bicentennial Kennedy half dollar was produced in 1975 and 1976. It returned to the original design in 1977. They started minting the original Kennedy half dollar in 1964.
