  1. Quite simply no. However, it depends on weather your car runs on simply petrol or diesel. Diesel engines, however, can run on something as simple as used cooking oil. And this is with no modifications what-so-ever.

  2. No.  The compression would have to be increased, requiring a new crankshaft, and the fuel system totally replaced.  But any Diesel vehicle can run on biodiesel; the only problem with biodiesel is the limited supply.

  3. Yes,  change the engine, engine management system and the entire fuel system.

  4. Yes.  You have to replace the gasoline engine with a diesel engine, and modify this for biodiesel.  Very costly.  You're much better off starting with a regular diesel engine.

  5. No, diesel and gasoline engines run in two entirely different ways.

  6. There is no easy way to convert the average gas engine to run on any type of diesel fuel.  The basic design of each type of engine is the same but the way they function is drastically different from each other.

I would, however, like to point out that this question is most certainly not stupid.  You're on the right track.  Instead of biodiesel, bio alcohols are a better choice for gasoline engine conversion.  And alcohol can also be made at home.  There are lots of websites on the subject if you're interested.

  7. no they are two differant types of engines and fuels. Diesel engines do not use spark plugs the fuel will not ignite with a spark, it uses compression to burn the deisel, hence the louder sounding engine.

  8. Not cheaply.

  9. Diesel engines - yes.

Gasoline engines - absolutely not (the problem is not just spark plugs. Diesel engines use much higher compression and must be built from "stronger" metal.)

  10. Not cost effective.

  11. no regular gasoline engines use a spark plug to ignite the fuel, diesel engines use pressure and bio diesel needs pressure to ignite

  12. "The only stupid sounding question, is the sound of one not being asked."
