  8. Sprechen sie Deutsche in Osterreich!  (They speak Greman in Austria)  If you want a famous native Austrian think Ah-nold Schwartznnegger.  Pretty strong Greman accent though not as strong as it used to be.

It is a good question -- it wouldn't surprise me if someone said Austrian!  It is very culturally tied to Germany.  This is one reason the world didn't flinch much when Hitler took it over in 1938 -- they figured it was German anyway.

I am guessing it is not part of Germany in that it was part of the Austria-Hungary Empire for many years.  Germany was not a country until 1868.  In fact many hundred years ago the term "German" was consisdered an insult.  This is according to history teachers I have had.

  9. The Austrian version of German, close to Bavarian.

And that is the ONLY language spoken there!

I lived there for 6 years.
