this may sound stupid... but here it goes... is it hard to make real friends in high school? Atleast sum1 who'll have your back? I just migrated from UAE (mid east) to Canada. It's a real big change.I'll be goin to the 11th grade and I attended summer school, and I didn't make one friend. There were these two chicks that I just spoke to and answered their doubts, but we never became friends. i'll be starting school in about a month. I'm worried that I won't make any friends during the time I have left at school now. It's been lingering for a while on my mind now . . i may sound pathetic to some out there but... wtf?

That's not a pathetic question at all because it's completely true. Take note of this: most of everyone in high school is highly insecure and is attracted to those who send of the vibe of power. If you are weary about anyone liking you as the new student, they will get the insecure vibe, and stray away to gain a sense of power. As cruel as it is, from what I observed, high school students love to feel power over others. Don't let your guard down and you should be alright. I will tell you one thing, a lot of high school students have friends just to have them. Most of them don't even like each other. It's ridiculous how insecurity takes hold of people.

I have a few suggestions-

1. Are you an athlete? Try out for the teams. You may be selected and you can make friends with your team mates.

2. Join some organizations or clubs within the school- chess team, debate team, drama club, etc.  Find an organization that suits you and join.  

3. Volunteer.  You meet all kinds of nice people by volunteering- Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, etc.  There may be chances to do charity work at your school, too.
