  1. Just do it!  I once took a B vitamin tab on an empty stomach and got a massive rash - also things like anti inflammatory tabs erode your stomach lining leading to ulcers - and will give you a sore tummy before that happens, which is why they say take with food.  So follow the advice given, there is probably a very good reason for it.

  2. if it says do it then do it!!! no questions!!

  3. Usually when a med says take with food, it means that food helps with absorption and reduces the likelihood of stomach upset.

  4. Sounds like you are taking tetracycline or doxycycline. With doxycycline, you actually can take it with dairy products but the pharmacists will sometimes tell you not to because it is a tetracycline-type drug.

The only reason to take it with food is to minimize stomach upset -- so if you take it on an empty stomach without any subsequent upset, then there is no problem. In general, however, you should folllow the prescriber's orders and take it with food. If you miss once in a while, I don' think that would be a problem.
