  1. It's portuguese, "meia" means socks and "baiana" is a word to define someone or something from Bahía, a city in Brasil.

    So "meia baiana" is literally "socks from Bahía"

  2. The answer isn't that simple. It's portuguese, indeed.

    'Manto' means blanket or cover.

    Let's translate the words 'Meia Baiana'. We've two meanings here:

    1) Meia Baiana=could be Baiana sock, i.e., a sock that came from Bahia, Brasil, or...

    2) Meia Baiana=could be someone/something half Baiana, in this case a feminine gender--masculine gender is Baiano.

    Sorry, but we haven't the impersonal pronoum 'it' in portuguese like in english, so we use to attribute gender to inanimate things/objects on a quite arbitrary form. Sounds weird, huh?

    Hugs from Brasil.

  3. meia numeral = half

    meia adverb = more or less

    baiana = woman from Bahia

    Bahia = brazilian State

  4. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a ”Baiana” is a "Double Leg Takedown" also known as a "Morote Gari" in Judo. So, a "Meia Baiana" is a "Half Baiana" AKA "Single Leg Takedown".
