  1. dont drive cars, dont burn anything, dont smoke, dont use paint or any chemicals and shut down all the nuclear plants and factories, never going to happen, there is technology to fix some of this stuff but its too expensive for common people to afford, go figer there is a price on the planet

  2. the ozone hole gets bigger every winter when theres NO sunlight at the pole to create the ozone & then closes up again in the spring when the sun starts shining there again.

the south & north pole ozone holes alternate since whats summer for one is winter for the other.

its always been that way. did you skip 7th grade science?

incidentally cfc's which can effect the upper ozone layer were outlawed in the U.S. in the 90s.

thats why you have to buy a new refridgerator every few years now instead of getting your old one recharged with freon like we used to.

  3. decrease in green house gas emissions- around the globe not just with the US

  4. It will heal itself if we stop poisoning it.

  5. Improvement?  over what?   The whole, hole thing was a shame, nothing but a way to get the American auto and refrigerant industry to implode as it did.  What used to cost 1.25 per pound, now cost at least 30.00 per pound for Suva 134A that is made in the EU.   Get it?   Do you really think that all of the other nations quit using R12?   No they just laughed at our stupidity,

Relax, there is NOTHING wrong with the ozone layer.

  6. Why are rates of skin cancer declining?  Seems to me that your ozone problem is not much of a problem after all.  After all of our polluting and all that CO2 to magnify the sun, we got declining skin cancer rates in many countries.  Sounds like Gore needs to bring those scientists aboard.

So, what is that depleting ozone effecting?

  7. and, not to belabor the point that Cindy usually doesn't know what she is talking about, a decline in *mortality* for skin cancer does not equate to a decline in occurrence.  The German study points this out in the discussion (the decline in morality is due to better treatment and early detection).  Additionally, the Scottish study shows that the increase of skin cancer has leveled off for women only, it is still rising for men.

It's going to take time for the chemical processes that are responsible for the Antarctic ozone hole to go away.  Maybe a couple of centuries.  Google "atmospheric lifetime halocarbons" and that will give you an estimate.

  8. d**k Cheney & George Bush impeached.

  9. The ozone layer is improving.  In fact, the big hole the scientists discovered in the 1970's is almost closed, just as they said it would be if we took the right steps.  As Cindy mentioned, skin cancer rates are dropping, just as the scientists said they would.

You guys do know this has nothing to do with Global warming, right?  Or not?

Wooo!  So it isn't Little Robber.  Well I needed some more bad news anyway.  Great site.  You're all over this stuff, aren't you?

  10. one time i heard the o zone was slowly re building its self

but its up to us humans for hope to happen

  11. ever1 and every countrie would have to stop selfishly cutting forests down and JUST USE HYDRID CARS OMG

  12. It can't be fixed.

  13. The ozone layer oscillates with the seasons, just as it has since it was formed millenia ago.

  14. it cant be healed, we can only prevent for it to waste more

  15. is it possible for dead people to live with us?

if yes then there is a hope for the ozon.be hopeful to live your life and im dying from love can you check out my question?

  16. It's been said that the ozone problem and things related to that is a cycle the earth goes through and may just fix itself. However if we wanted to help Definitely less factories which won't happen, even the one that empty into the water because it evaporates. Drive less which is also not gonna happen. Most people think it's my one car whether I drive or not won't make a difference but 1,000 people thinking that way does. The easiest thing we could do it recycle but surprisingly most people also find that to be too much of a hassle as well. h**l, some people can't even tell the difference in some of the categories. Less flight requires traveling because planes blast loads of gas. Basically stop depending on technology so much which except the few thousands that doesn't really measure up to the billions of people whom find it to much of a hassle.

  17. If we ALL died, then it should naturally recover to pre-industrial age levels in around a century or so.

  18. i'm very sorry to have to disagree with you tuba, but the seasonal ozone hole over Antarctica is not really getting smaller on average yet, it at least isnt getting any bigger;

and kids, this really isnt a cause of global warming!

  19. well i geuss we could just get a big ladder..or some cloud stairs go up to that famous hole and spray paint the gap white. then it would dissappear wouldnt it. probably more simple if you dont think about it.

  20. Ugh silly people.

It has been repairing its self thanks to the montreal protocol.

  21. The damage has been done, all we can do now is make sure no more occurs.

  22. Our own Jet planes are the greatest offenders to the Ozone.  We would have to stop flying all over the world and I don't just mean Americans'.  It would have to be a world wide effort.  I don't really see that happening any time soon.  Perhaps when the climate changes become so extreme, that people start to lose their lives then, maybe people will take this more seriously.  Then you have all the automobiles that burn fossil fuels and the factories that emit carbons into the air.

It's going to take a concerted effort to save our planet.  Who want's to give up their SUV?  Please raise your hand.
