Question:

This might sound really stupid but, does the economy make it a buyer's market for cars right now?

It is for a lot of things, and I'm assuming it does for cars as well. I'm eighteen and saving up...thinking that now might be a great time to go get a used car. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Thanks =)

  1. yes, for trucks and SUVs or any other gas guzzler

  2. well they are not having any 2 for 1 sales yet.

but sales are down at least 19%

and if you want a Hummer nows the time.

if your looking for a small Honda or Toyota forget it, anything that rolls and gets good mpg is going out the door quick.

  3. thats not a stupid question! its actually a really good one.

The car market right now is good in select areas, especially the bigger cars. If you want a truck or an SUV, now's the time. They're selling them for practically nothing compared to what they were selling them for three to four years ago.

The hybrids though? forget about it. The base Toyota Prius goes for abotu 23k, and dealers are getting about 26-27 for them.

Hyundai's are also good for the market right now. Their cars are getting more reliable every day, and since they're less popular than Toyota or Honda, they're great with the prices.

And as for used? not really. Since everyoen wants to trade in their car for a more fuel efficent one, used cars are basically going for the same price as new cars.

  4. It is always a buyers market on some cars and less on others.

I remember when Volks wouldn't consider a discount.  I know where to get them at near invoice now.

Honda always holds out for the money,  they are rated #1 best made.  #2 Toyota will hold out.

I compared the Hyundai Sanata to the Accord and Camry and I'm going Hyundai.

Good discounts and nice rebates and a well made car with the best warranty.

More leg room seat room and headroom with the largest trunk for my wheelchair.

Consider that the payment on new can be lower than on used and check around.

Go to autotrader.com you will find 3000 rebates on new 2007 ( yes there are some) and 2008 and 2000 on 2009.

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time get the older ones.  Shorter time newer is best.
