If that young father from Whitehaven in Cumbria was proscecuted for not paying his fine imposed on him for not shutting his dustbin down properly Then the Cumbria authority would have a field day where I live (near Peterhead Scotland) as most homes have two big wheelie bins and still have them over flowing. And what happens when it's windy... all the rubbish finds it's way into my garden as we have to put our bins out overnight....the cats just love it..but I hate it.

I think that all local authorities ought to provide better facilities than they do.

So what do you think the answer is folks, or does your local authority provide adequate provision for the disposing of your rubbish?

How can we resolve this problem of rubbish and fortnighlty collections. I recycle and am fortunate enough to have room for a composter, and womery also my family have all flown the coop. It must be hard for family to manage this fortnightly collection.

  1. Well as this is just one of the 111.000 regulations from the EU, they tell us how to run our counties, these bins have proved Not fit for purpose, I think only bags should be used, a skip at the bottom of your street, the bin men collect the bags and deposit them in the skip, and a truck takes the skip away, just an idea.

  2. We have collections twice a week here in Cyprus. When houses are built here, at the front of the house they build like a large cabinet with a door to put yr bin bags in. Its great! Sorry u guys all have problems. I used to live in the UK so know what a pain it all is.

  3. Don't produce so much rubbish, be more socailly consious about yr waste dude....simple!

  4. Defra has been looking into ways to fullfill the waste directives from the EU.  They are trying to make producers, retailers and consumers responsible for waste.  Unfortunately some places seem to have taken the heavy handed approach to changing folks behaviour.  They need to read Aesops fable about the Sun and the Wind and the old man in a coat.

  5. It's absolutely preposterous!!!!

He have been find less for speeding!!

  6. The UK should take a look at the way Spain deals with rubbish , we have our rubbish collected every day the bins work twenty four hours a day this costs us 18 euro every three months it's brilliant.
