Ok, I live near Birmingham, Walsall. Basically Iv'e got to plan a walk for my silver Duke of Edinburgh.

The walk needs to be spread over 3 days, 7 hours walking a day and perhaps about 25 miles in total.

Now, the question is where do I walk.

Also the walk has got to have a purpose, ideal a christian based purpose.

ANY IDEAS FOR WHERE AND PURPOSE?

thank you so much

  2. Well, you could always walk a bit along Hadrian's Wall - not a religious thing, but they have a museum somewhere, and you could learn something about British and Roman history.

For religious walks, have a look at this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilgrims%27...

But, basically, you can find places that used to be destinations for pilgrims everywhere; even if many of them are not "en vogue" among modern day pilgrims. So if money and time are an issue, and you are looking for something close to Birmingham, I suggest you try to find out what pilgrimage places there are or used to be near your hometown, and then ask the vicar or whomever if church historians still know what the main routes were along which people used to come to that place [usually, these pilgrimage routes would be laid out in such a way that they would include a lot of other religious places of "lesser" importance along the way]. Then you could walk along one of these routes.

If this route is completely lapsed today, and even the church and the local tourism board have done as yet nothing to revive it, but you can get clear geographical information from the church about the exact route, then you could take alot of pictures along the way, draw the route into a map, make a website, etc., to allow other people to follow your track, thus reviving the pilgrims' way - that would be "purpose", wouldn't it?
