I see you don't take any emails, anyways, i saw that you are a midwife and i was hoping i could ask you a quick question. I don't like my OB. she trys to induce her patients and when i tell her about all the discomforts of my pregnancy she tried to prescribe me pills! i was SO pissed, i feel like i learn more on DHC then from her. So do you think it's too late to switch to a midwife this far a long in pregnancy? Plus i don't feel comfortable giving birth in a hospital. i really wish i acted on this sooner. =(

what do you think? (34.5 weeks pregnant)

thanks!

  1. No, it's never too late, as long as you are having a normal pregnancy, I'm sure any midwife would be happy to help you out.

I don't know where you are in the world, or what your medical system is like though.

Where I am (Australia) it's possible to give birth in a hospital with midwives assisting rather than an OB/GYN if that's what you want - they have birthing centres, which offer the best of both worlds - a "home" style environment with midwives attending, but help readily on hand should anything go wrong at the last minute.

Most major public hospitals have a midwives clinic.

Midwives may also help you through home birthing options, but with insurance and libilities being HUGE issues these days, many independent midwives simply can't afford it anymore.

    Where are you? (what country)

Add: I guess you'd have to forefit the fees you have already paid?  Our system here is different so can't help you there.  My husband who is an OB/GYN but as close as you'll get to a male midwife, recommends that you contact an organisation called the Texas Midwives Group, based in San Antionio  http://www.texasmidwivesgroup.com/index....

If they're not near you they should be able to recommend someone local.

Alternately, contact the North American Registry of Midwives  http://www.narm.org/contact.htm.  They should be able to point you in the right direction.
