I'm interested in becoming a vet. the college i want to go to has a pre-vet program but you need to major in something else for your undergraduate before vet school. They recommend majoring in biology. Which branch of biology would be best or is there another major that would work too? I want to major in something that can allow me to become something else if vet school doesn't work out.

  1. Biology with an Animal Physiology concentration is what the University I went to recommended for the pre-vet students.  Either that or Animal Sciences or Zoology would also be good choices.  I would recommend taking a look at the course requirements for each major, then looking at this chart: http://www.aavmc.org/vmcas/documents/Pre... which lists the prerequisite courses for all the Vet Schools in the US.  Pick a major that allows most of the courses you need for vet school to count towards your degree requirements in that field, that way you don't end up with buckets of other advanced science courses you need to take above and beyond the normal degree requirement.  .

  2. Major in whatever you like. Most people major in biology, but it is not necessary.
