  1. I let my clubs grow with my game. When my grandfather started teaching me at 5 years old, he cut down a few of his old clubs and made me a basic wood, iron and putter. Then when i got a little bigger, he purchased a basic set of ladies clubs which i used until i developed a repeatable swing. I purchased a beat set of Wilson forged irons (before i knew the difference between forged, cast, etc) when i was 7 years old at a yard sale (well dad and mom got them with my allowance). Anyway, i used these clubs up until i dropped my scores into the high 80s. When i got there and felt like the old clubs were holding me back, i purchased a set of Cobra II irons, A CobraII TI driver, and 3 & 7 woods. Also got  a better putter and started playing better balls. I played with those clubs for about 8 years, and just last year, as i got my score back into the low 80s, high 70s i upgraded to a workable cast set of irons. They're players irons and give me more workability than the ultra forgiving irons i have now. When i drop my score down into the mid to low 70s (almost there) i'll get another set.

Moral of this rambling: I've bought irons every 2, 5, and up to 8 years. Time isn't really a factor in buying clubs (unless they just plain wear out) and you should worry more about fitting them to your game.

Some of todays clubs are so forgiving they'll actually limit you in your ability to make shots. You may know how to hit a controlled fade and draw, but some clubs just won't allow you to make those shots. They're not intelligent and don't know the difference between someone who is set up for a fade and someone who just let their hands lag a little bit. It's not often you see pros (if at all) playing Offset clubs, or draw bias clubs for this reason.

  2. Ive had my first set for about 4 years and want to get new ones. My brother already bought some new ones after 2 years. said he grew tired of em and wanted to get a "lighter" set for a smother swing.

  3. Probably once in two years.  I traded them in for new ones.  But only if I can find better ones than I have.  If not, then just keep the old ones, or have the old ones refinished.

  4. well   i only play like once a week and shoot in the low to mid 80's  so i'm not good but i'm not really bad. the irons i have i've had them like 5 years and i'm ready for new ones but there in fine shape and could be used for 10 more years if i wanted to. some pros play with the same set for 10-15+ years and they play alot.

  5. Approximately every 10  years . At 85 I have had  5 sets of clubs since joining  a country club at age 35 or thereabouts. The last set was purchased about 5 years ago after going to graphite shaft on the woods.Had to get irons with approximately the same flex.

  6. it is entirely down to personal preference. some people wait 1 month, some people wait 30 years! It's all down to what you are used to and if you like your clubs (and hit them well of course!) then there is not really no need to get a new set. unless you want to try something new. so its up to you really! good luck, happy golfing :)

  7. There's no set answer.  I usually get a new wedge every year as I tend to wear the grooves down.

If the current sticks are working for me, they stay in the bag.

They should last several years if you're talking about wear.

If you play regularly, it's probably a good idea to get new grips every year (or at least every two years); I replace mine every year (I play about 50-60 rounds per year from April-October).

  8. First set I played for about 20 years.  Second set about 10 years, last 15 years have gone through about 5 sets so am averaging 3 years before changing.  They keep making such advances in technology that in order to stay competitive with my pals I have to upgrade.
