This question made NO sense to me?

Question

helen westman takes public transportation to and from work each day. The blue line bus stops at State Street and Main every twenty minutes. The red line bus stops there every half hour. If both buses were at the stop at 1:10 P.M., what is the next time that Ms. Westman will be able to change buses at the State Street stop without waiting??

2:10, because the 30 minute one will have been there twice, and the 20 minute one three times. You are just looking for the first multiple of both 20 and 30.

I think the question is what is the next time will both buses be at the stop simultaneously.

So I guess the answer is 2:10 P.M. But lets face it, no bus line runs that smoothly. Odds are she'll be mugged waiting on the red line bus which is stuck  in rush hour traffic.

With the left being the bus that stops every twenty minutes and the right being the bus that stops every thirty minutes...

1:10 - 1:10

1:30 - 1:40

1:50 - 2:10

2:10 - 2:40

2:30 - 3:10

2:50 - 3:40

3:10 - 4:10

I went on for a bit longer than needed to just to demonstrate how to work it out but it would be 2:10PM.

Both buses will be there again in one hour (at 2:10).

Blue Line (every 20 minutes): 1:10,  1:30,  1:50,  2;10...

Red Line (every 30 minutes): 1:10. 1:40, 2:10...

The next time will be in 60 mins , 2 : 10

Think about it the times the blue line stops 1:10 1:30 1:50 2:10 2:30

                     and the times of the red line 1:10 1:40 2:10 2:40
