“This team has heart” - Sporting Lisbon coach Domingos Paciência lavishes praise on his side
Sporting Lisbon coach, Domingos Paciência, has lavished praise on his side after the 3-0 win over Vitoria Setubal and said that his team have gotten stronger and possesses the heart to succeed this term.
The Lions made it four wins out of four with their latest 3-0 victory over Vitoria Setubal at Estadio Jose Alvalade on Saturday.
Domingos Paciência’s men made a slow start to the season but as the fixtures have gone on, the club have reaped the benefits of their hefty summer investments.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricky-van-Wolfswinkel-c31131 and Stijn Schaars were the more high profile players to sign for the Lisbon outfit during the transfer window and the current form the duo are in it looks like money well spent.
Dutch striker Van Wolfswinkel has netted five times in the last four games and looks certain to be one of the signings of the season. His teammate, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stijn-Schaars-c34229, has also been impressive and has scored twice in the last matches.
With a strong squad and quality players at the helm, many have labelled the Sportinguistas to be genuine title contenders this year and believe that they will oust the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 and Benfica to the title.
Thinking on the same lines is Domingos Paciência; the tactician who has masterminded the club’s wins and is looking to achieve his rather lofty ambitions.
Speaking to reporters, the manager said that his players were gelling together and getting better as the games went on. He also said that their dominance was swaying results in their favour and it was boosting the team’s morale along the way.
"We all know that there will be a time, when team will grow. We got stronger in the game and translated into goals and it is important for the team. When this happens the team gains confidence,” he said.
Furthermore, the trainer went onto to say that his side possessed the heart and believed in the type of football they are playing, something which the fans must also share if they are to progress even further.
"We want the game to go our way and do what we want, but this has happened to all of us. This is also good. This team has heart and truly believe what they are doing. The fans also have to believe in us. We must continue to work for the team, so that we
can maintain a high level of play,” Domingos Paciência was quoted as saying.
Arguably the strongest Primeira Liga team on paper, Sporting Lisbon do have the quality to win the highest honour of Portuguese football and the only hurdle that prevents them from doing so is that they are still a side in transition.
