  1. Depending on the size of your fig tree, you could cover it with something like netting,  as well as hanging some mobiles or deterrent products that move in the breeze, make noise or cause sunlight reflections, that would deter animals and scare them away.   Something like a  3/4” netting would prevent most birds, including house sparrows, from being able to get to the fruit.

There's an example of a light reflecting tape here: http://www.amazon.com/Dalen-4-Inch-100-F...   http://www.bird-x.com/irritape-p-15.html  Otherwise, hang some tin foil, as this will have a similar effect.

Squirrels will also be deterred by such movement, and you can add sprays etc that they don't like the smell of, to keep them off your fig tree. Ensure you get a product that is non-toxic.  There's an example here, but if you look around you will find a ton of products that deter squirrels.  Aim to train them away from your garden long before your fig tree ripens its fruit.   http://www.gardeners.com/Squirrel%20+%20...

If you have a cat, this will deter these animals too.

Hope this helps.  Good luck!  Rob
