  1. No, provided you eat as much of what you catch as you can.  I fish, and I generally fish for food, not sport.  I don't oppose sport fishing, providing people treat the fish with the respect that they deserve, and cause them as little suffering as possible.  Incidentally, why would commercial fishing be any better?  From what you have said in your question, I presume that you are anti-angling and pro-commercial fishing.  Maybe, if you researched the topic a little, you might be persuaded to change your mind.  Rod and line fishing is sustainable, whereas the commercial trawlers come and remove every single living fish from the sea and throw anything that they didn't want to catch or was too small back into the sea, dead or mutilated, sinking to the bottom in a cascade of death.  Why is that better than going out with a rod and getting your dinner?    At least most anglers don't destroy whole ecosystems, wasting millions of tonnes of food in the process.  So no, I don't think that rod-and-reel fishing is bad, as long as you treat your catch with the dignity it deserves and either promptly dispatch it or return it with the minimum of fuss and damage.
