This year has been successful, says Thomas Aiken
Thomas Aiken confirmed his place at the Dubai World Championship after a T3 finish at the South African Open. It has been a successful year for Thomas Aiken on the European Tour this season.
Although he could only manage just one victory on the European Tour but the South African has been extremely consistent with his performances over the course of last one year.
“All in all, I've had a very consistent season,” he said after a final-round 67 at the Serengeti Golf Club.
Aiken so far has only missed four cuts this year. This is a major achievement, considering the fact that he has been playing on three tours this season.
Thomas, being a South African, plays on the Sunshine Tour as well, apart from being a regular member of the European and the PGA Tour.
“I've only missed four cuts the whole year on three tours – the US (PGA), the European and this tour (Sunshine) so I can't be too disappointed about that”.
One area which the world number 111 needs to improve on is his putting. The South African has had to face a tough battle on the greens this year and he is very well aware of that.
Aiken has played the least number of tournaments this season. He took a two and a half month break as he got married.
“It's been an interesting season. I took a lot of time off in the beginning of the season, I got married. I took two-and-a-half months off,” he shared.
“So I've played the least number of events this year, but I've played quite a lot leading up to this which has been quite tiring”.
Despite finishing third at the South African Aiken is not happy. “It's a tournament I desperately want to win”, he said. “It would be nice to come back and do that next year”.
However, probably his best finish so far has been the seventh place finish at the British Open, where has matched the skills of Tiger Woods.
Thomas has said that next year his goal would be to win a major and he definitely has the capability to achieve that.
