Sri Lankan seamer, Thisara Perera, expressed delight after contributing with both bat and ball to his side’s 76-run win over Pakistan in the second One Day International of the five-match series, at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, on Saturday, June
9, 2012.
The 23-year-old Colombo-born seamer was yesterday moved up the batting order, above http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913, an experiment that paid dividends as the left-hander played a cameo of 24 unbeaten runs from just 14 deliveries, to give the end of
the innings a great impetus. He then returned with a career-best haul of six for 44 from 10 overs, as the tourists were dismissed for only 204 in 46.2 overs. The lanky seamer was later adjudged as the Man of the Match for his game-winning all-round performance.
"It is a 50-50 wicket. You can hit also, and you can get wickets too,” said Perera at the post-match presentation ceremony. “Really enjoyed myself. I could play my natural game. Now it's 1-1, and we have to carry this performance forward," he added further.
The Sri Lankan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 also lavished praise on the gangling right-arm medium pace bowler from Colombo and hoped he will take the momentum in the rest of the series.
“Perera is brilliant,” said Jayawardene, who scored 45-ball 53, at the presentation ceremony. “It’s great to have such all-rounders, Angelo and him. Hopefully we keep them both healthy for a long period of time," the home skipper hoped.
Thisara Perera made his international debut with a One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Kolkata in December 2009, and has so far played 36 ODIs claiming 54 wickets at an impressive average of 23.66. He also has a half-century in his name. The seamer made
his Test debut in May last year, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, and has seven Test scalps in his name from five appearances.
The five-match ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and Pakistan is now levelled at 1-1, with three games to go. The third one dayer of the series will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
