I feed the Finches that come in to my garden on thistle seeds, so have a bag full of thistle seeds. My next door neighbours garden is far nicer then mine and she is always out there gardening I’m thinking of sabotaging her efforts by throwing a load of thistle seeds over the fence and watching them grow. Is this a good plan?

  1. save the seeds for the birds.... notice that they don't sprout in YOUR garden?.... they won't sprout in hers either.....

  2. I would use a weed srayer to fill water ballons with bleach. Then every now and then chuck one over the fence the effects are much more rapid and permanent.

  3. No, do not do that.  Instead, compliment her on her garden, and get some tips from her.  Then next year your garden may be better that hers.  A lot of gardeners get real upset when their neighbours go one better than them.  They even sit and think up plots like throwing weed seeds on their gardens would you believe?

  4. Most thistle seeds are imported from foreign countries( Africa and Asia) so they must be sterile to pass customs.  Take out your jealousy some other way.  Perhaps you could grow really big sunflowers for the birds that shade her garden from the sun.

  5. Don't do that. Have you ever heard the saying "what goes around comes around? Why not just enjoy her garden and get some hints from her.

  6. bad plan - jealousy is a bad thing too., it sounds to me as if you're getting bored and it's making you mischievous....

Grow the seeds in your own garden and name your house ' Thistledale'

  7. What a splendid idea. to compound the havoc why not dig up some switch grass roots dug up from your dump, to add to the seeds. Commit the deed on a dark rainy night to allow switch roots to establish. also dock seeds, these are easy to harvest, and do not require expending too much energy.
