Thitiphun Chuayprakong finishes third in the Venetian Macau Open
Thai youngster, Thitiphun Chuayprakong carded a one-under par 70 on Sunday and finished tied for the third position at the Venetian Macau Open.
The tournament was being played at the Macau Golf & Country Club, featuring some of the big guns from the Asian Tour.
Entering the final round in Singapore, he was just two strokes behind the overnight leader and the winner Gaganjeet Bhullar.
His four birdies on the first six holes allowed him to challenge Bhullar on top of the leaderboard. However, his wayward tee shot on the eighth hole went out of the bounds, leading him to a double bogey six.
He then tried to make a comeback with a birdie on the ninth hole. However, his confidence was completely shattered and he failed to keep his nerves under control.
He conceded two bogeys on the back nine of the course and slipped down to the shared third spot with Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he admitted that he was under pressure, especially because of the strong winds blowing on the venue course.
He stated that he was not able to judge the correct wind direction, which forced him to make a wrong decision of using his driver on the eighth tee.
“I made some mistakes, especially on hole eight which cost me. I was under a bit of pressure and I wasn’t sure of the wind direction. Then I chose my driver but I should have used a three wood which would have been better. That was my mistake,”
said Thitiphun.
He added, “My feeling wasn’t so good. My putting and driver, everything didn’t feel too sure. However I am happy to finish tied third. I will try to become better from here. This week has been good experience. This will also help me earn my tour card”.
Siddikur, in the meantime, was happy to earn a place in next month’s World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions by replacing Scott Hend at the eighth spot in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
According to the qualifying criteria for the last WGC event of the year, the top-eight players from the Asian Tour will receive invitations to participate in the event in China.
