Thitiphun Chuayprakong keeps local hopes alive at the Thailand Golf Championship
Thitiphun Chuayprakong of Thailand kept the local hopes alive, after finishing second on day two of the Thailand Golf Championship, at the Amata Spring Country Club in Bangkok.
Chuayprakong was brimming with confidence, despite the fact that he was playing against some of the best players in the world.
The Thai youngster started his round on the back nine of the course and carded birdies on the 11th and the 13th hole to reach the turn in two-under.
His back-nine performance was even better, as he drained another three putts for birdies, to finish three strokes behind the pace set by Charl Schwartzel, who carded a 14-under par overall score.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in being paired with Schwartzel for the third round in Bangkok.
The 20-year-old currently holds the 44th position in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, thanks chiefly to his third-place finish at the Venetian Macau Open in October.
He now appears to be moving on the right track, in a bid to make a strong move in the money list.
Having already secured his Asian Tour card for the 2013 golf season, Thitiphun now plans to end his 2012 campaign on a high note, by clinching the maiden victory of his career at this week’s event.
“I’m feeling good. My aim this morning was to make two pars but I got one birdie instead with a good shot on eight. It almost went in on nine but never mind,” he said, after completing his second round on Saturday, early in the morning.
He added, “I’m so excited to be in the last group in the third round. I’m feeling good about my game and I’m looking forward to it”.
He also said that he may feel the pressure playing on his home soil, as the spectators will be expecting high from him.
According to the Thai star, he will have to focus on his own game, rather than concentrating on other’s expectations.
“There will be a lot of pressure as I’m playing at home. I must concentrate hard on my own game,” said Thitiphun.
