Thitiphun Chuayprakong records his best Asian Tour finish at the
Thailand Golf Championship
Thitiphun Chuayprakong of Thailand carded a two-under par 70 in the final round of the Thailand Golf Championship, to finish tied for the second position, on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
The tournament was being played at the Amata Spring Country Club, which is known as one of the longest golf courses in the Asian region.
The 20-year-old Thai played better than many of the world’s top-notch players, who contended for the US$1 million prize purse in Bangkok.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, he remained consistent and secured the best finish of his career on the Asian Tour, after posting a 14-under par tournament score.
The youngster started off his campaign with a 66 on day one and followed that with a 67 in the second round.
Thereafter, he posted rounds of 71 and 70, in the last two rounds, to finish 11 strokes behind the winner Charl Schwartzel, who fired an emphatic 25-under par tournament score.
Playing in the last group on Sunday, Chuayprakong fired three birdies and an eagle against three bogeys.
Talking to the Asian Tour’s official website, he stated that he was really pleased with his overall performance in the tournament.
“I’m so proud with how I played because I played with one of the best players in the world. The way he (Schwartzel) handles himself was fantastic. This is a great feeling for me,” said the ever-smiling Chuayprakong.
“Charl handles himself very well and he is very patient on the golf course. This is something which I’m working on with my psychologist as well,” he added.
In the meantime, he also expressed his disappointment in sharing the second spot on the leaderboard. He said that he held the sole second position, throughout the first three rounds.
However, the final round witnessed the reigning Masters champion Bubba Watson making a strong charge on the leaderboard to join Chuayprakong at the second spot.
“I’m happy with my round but slightly disappointed I didn’t finish second alone. I’m going to play with more confidence now and this will be an inspiration for me because I want to win on the Asian Tour,” he said.
