Thomas Bjorn, Brandt Snedeker moves up, Branden Grace eliminated from the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Thomas Bjorn recorded a win in the second round of the Volvo World Match Play Championship, and is now moving into the third round.
The 41-year-old Danish scored seven points on Friday, at the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
He started the game on Thursday by playing against Brandt Snedeker, but faced a defeat. Bjorn scored only two points in the first round, whereas Snedeker shot seven points and won the round by a six-stroke lead.
His first-round performance was unimpressive, as he was unable to compete well at the mega event. He was worried about his lousy performance, saying he would try to win in the second round.
Bjorn amazed the spectators in the second round for making seven points in total. He defeated Branden Grace and secured the position at the European Tour staged event.
“I got a better start today more than anything,” Bjorn said. “Yesterday after five weeks off it was very rusty. It was better today, not much better but better”.
“It was a bit scruffy on both sides, we gave each other a few holes here and there. But there were some big putts being made on the back nine, I made a big putt on 13 that got my tail up and Brendan probably felt it was going against him”.
He started the second round with plenty of confidence. He made three birdies and earned benefit four times of Snedeker bogeys. Snedeker only scored five points and faced a defeat by two strokes.
The Pool McCormack group has amazing results. All the three players have completed two rounds, but remaiend successful in just one. The professional players have earned 2 leaderboard points.
The elimination process was difficult for the tournament officials. After looking deep into the performances, the officials declared Branden Grace for the elimination.
Grace defeated Snedeker in the afternoon session, but was unable to impress the spectators. He shot only five points and won by four a point-lead.
He was unable to score a birdie in the second round and recorded a win, due to a mediocre performance from Snedeker.
He has to face elimination from the European Tour event. On the other hand, Snedeker and Bjorn are heading for the third round on Saturday, in Spain.
