Thomas Bjorn regains the lead at the Barclays Singapore Open
Thomas Bjorn regained the lead after recording a four-under par 67 in the rain-delayed second round of the Barclays Singapore Open, on Saturday, November 10, 2012.
The tournament is being played at the Sentosa Golf Club, and is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour.
Bjorn was unable to start his second round on Friday, as the inclement weather forced the game to be suspended.
Therefore, the Dane started his second-round campaign two shots behind the clubhouse leaders George Coetzee and Chris Wood.
He got off to a confident start by recording a par putt on the first hole and followed that with a birdie on the second hole.
On the third and the fourth hole, he saved the pars after firing the ball in water. On the 11th hole, he added another shot to his scorecard to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
A couple of more birdies on the 12th and the 14th hole allowed him to take the outright lead, two strokes better than Coetzee and Wood.
Talking about the course conditions, he stated that the game can become tough for one who does not drive well off the tee.
Therefore, a good driving technique will play a key role in the tournament, especially when the strong winds, along with rain showers, are blowing on the venue course.
“This course can very quickly bite you, especially if you don’t drive the ball well,” said the 13-time European Tour winner. “The numbers can run up on this golf course, so you’ve got to stay with what you’re doing”.
“I’ve enjoyed these two days, and it’s nice to play some good stuff but there’s still a long way to go in this golf tournament,” he added. “I’ve got two good rounds in the bank but there’s a way to go”.
Coetzee and Wood, in the meantime, brightened their chances of earning their first ever victory on the European Tour, after both carded a seven-under par two-round score.
The highlight of the day included Coetzee’s run of five birdies in a row, starting from the 18th hole, his 9th.
