Thomas Chippendale unlikely for Betfred Dante Stakes at York
Thomas Chippendale is unlikely to show his magic in next Thursday’s Betfred Dante Stakes at York, as his connections decide not to take any risk ahead of the colt’s two major races next month.
The 3-year-old has entries both for Investec Derby at Epsom and King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot. Sir Henry Cecil’s trainee has not run in any event so far this season due to the testing conditions.
With two mega contests around the corner, Thomas Chippendale is unlikely to be sent to York, where the conditions would not be easy. Barry Simpson, racing manager for owner Sir Robert Ogden, stated:
"He wouldn't want testing ground and we really would have preferred to have got a run into him before thinking about the Dante."
"It would be a big ask to run in the Dante now and it's not Henry's style to push horses - he likes to let racing bring them on. We haven't finalised anything yet, but I think it's probably unlikely he'll run in the Dante," he added.
Thomas Chippendale’s debut was a nightmare last season. In the Sky Bet Mobile Convivial Maiden Stakes at York, the novice runner failed to live up to the expectations and finished 10th on the chart.
After making a wonderful start to the proceedings, he got weakened due to the tough conditions. Despite a disappointing outcome, the son of Dansili did not lose his determination and came up with an excellent effort in the following appearance.
The spectators at Leicester saw him topping the chart by a neck’s distance in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Soar Maiden Stakes (Div I). The Ed McMahon-trained, Went The Day Well, kept troubling him right through the event, but
narrowly missed the crown.
On the other hand, Michael Easterby, has confirmed that Hoof It will be partnered by Ryan Moore in next Wednesday’s Duke of York Stakes at York.
"The owners asked me to get Ryan Moore. He (Hoof It) will probably run but he likes good ground and it could be too soft for him," the trainer disclosed.
