Thomas Cup Finals: Simon Santoso registers comprehensive victory over Rajiv Ouseph – Badminton news
Indonesia’s Simon Santoso started his campaign in a gutsy manner when he toppled Rajiv Ouseph of England in the opening team-event fight at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 in China, on Monday, May 21.
Santoso, who has been placed at number 9 in Men’s Singles world rankings, showed his remarkable skills while playing against Ouseph and emerged as the winner without facing losing any set.
The higher ranked Indonesian was in commanding position in the court as he played with precision and managed to win the battle in two games by working for 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Ouseph put up good show in the opening game where he matched the speed of his higher ranked Indonesian rival but failed to play well in the end and lost the set with a tight margin.
However, the English shuttler could not put up strong show in the second game and lost it with a comprehensive score on the board.
Santoso was composed in the court from the opening points of first game and remained slightly ahead of his rival at 11-8 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Indonesian continued his positive play but failed to stop his opponent from catching up.
The score progressed closely until the ending phase when the Indonesian played with precision and wrapped up the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following set, the Ouseph put up a good resistance in opening rallies but failed to live up to expectations as his opponent took over the control and managed a wonderful lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the break, Santoso stretched his lead while remaining positive and aggressive in the court.
His powerful smashes and disguised shots landed in right areas and continued his inspiring run in the game.
The higher ranked Indonesian remained on track in the second set and took it impressively with a stunning 21-9 score on the board.
The in-form Santoso ended up this 40-minute Men’s Singles contest in two sets with a tremendous margin of 21-19 and 21-9.
