Indonesia’s Simon Santoso lived up to expectations as he toppled Japan’s ace shuttler Sho Sasaki at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 on Wednesday, May 23, at Wuhan, China.
The right-handed Sasaki, who is current number nine in Men’s Singles world placements, was remarkable in the court when he played with aggression and overpowered his higher ranked Japanese opponent in a convincing fashion.
The lower ranked Santoso displayed tremendous his skills while playing against his Japanese opponent and managed to win the battle in straight games by taking 47 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the World Number 6 Sasaki could not live up to expectations as he failed to win any set against his Indonesian opponent and bowed to him in two games.
Santoso started his run in the opening set in a striking fashion as he controlled the pace of rallies and also remained ahead on the board until the mid-game interval.
In the meanwhile, Sasaki tried his best to overpower his rival in the opening half first game but failed and remained slightly behind Santoso on the score board.
After the break, the Japanese geared up his speed and played positive badminton which helped him to bridge the gap by reaching at 15-15.
Both men remained equal on the score board until the score reached at 20-20 when Santoso showed his impressive skills and took the set with a 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, Santoso was one class above his Japanese opponent as he played with tremendous confidence and took an early lead without facing even a slight resistance from Sasaki.
The Japanese shuttler could not produce good form in this game and remained struggling miles behind on the score board at 2-11 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Santoso continued his power play without sparing any sign of mercy for his higher ranked Japanese opponent and remained successful in taking the second set with a sensational 21-12 score on the board.
The experienced Indonesian won this Men’s Singles fight in straight sets in 47 minutes with a stunning margin of 22-20 and 21-14.
