Thomas Cup Finals: Taufik Hidayat trounces Carl Baxter in Men’s Singles encounter- Badminton news
Indonesia’s legendary player Taufik Hidayat showed his class when he easily tamed England’s Carl Baxter at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 at Wuhan, China, on Monday, May 21.
The former Olympic Champion Taufik, who is currently World Number 12 in Men’s Singles category, put up superb show of top quality badminton and ended the match in an emphatic manner.
The higher ranked Indonesian was impressive as he did not lost his focus at any stage and won the contest in a striking way by finishing it off in straight games in just 35 minutes.
On the other hand, Baxter failed to shake the rhythm of his higher ranked and experienced Indonesian opponent and bowed down to him easily without taking any game.
In the first set, Taufik found a perfect start when he played with precision and managed an early lead without showing any mercy to his opponent.
The Indonesian employed his experience and moved his lower ranked English opponent in all corners of the court.
Until the one-minute interval, it was Taufik who sailed smoothly and took an amazing lead of 11-6 on the board.
After the break, the Indonesian remained positive in the game and did not let Baxter to catch up the gap at any stage.
Taufik sailed smoothly in the concluding part of first game and managed to end it with a terrific 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, Baxter gave a good fight in opening rallies and remained close to Taufik who became a little relaxed in the opening rallies.
However, Taufik changed his tactics and started to dominate the game at net which helped him to take a superb lead until the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, Baxter tried his best to reduce the deficit but failed as Taufik was on a different level.
The Indonesian continued playing positive badminton in the ending phase and took the second game easily by putting up a remarkable 21-16 margin on the score board.
The higher ranked Taufik proved his skills by ending this contest in straight set with a comprehensive margin of 21-12 and 21-16.
