Thomas Cup Preliminary Round: Lee Hyun Il thrashes Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk – Badminton news
Korea’s experienced Men’s Singles shuttler Lee Hyun Il utilised his experience to chuck out the young Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand in the Thomas Cup Preliminary Round, on Saturday, February 18, in Macau.
Korea won this team event match against Thailand with a convincing margin of 4-1.
Lee Hyun, who has got an elevated world ranking by reaching at number eight, showed his impressive skills against the spirited Thai opponent and won the match in tremendous fashion. The higher ranked Korean did not face any considerable problem from Saensomboonsuk and finished the match in straight sets by taking just 26 minutes in the court.
The Korean started the opening set in a relaxed manner as he was quite composed. On the other hand the Thai shuttler was quick in all areas and he played aggressive badminton in the first half.
However, Saensomboonsuk failed to dominate the game as his experienced opponent put up strong defence. Until the break, the Korean managed a difference of three points by reaching at 11-8.
After the break, Saensomboonsuk tried his level best to reduce the difference but his Korean opponent was in complete control of the game. The Thai failed to level the score in the second half.
On the other hand, Lee Hyun remained dominant and continued his positive play throughout the concluding part of fist set. He finished the opening game with a comfortable difference of 21-16.
In the second game, both players showed their aggression and remained equal until the score reached at 4-4. At this stage, Lee Hyun geared up his speed at net and controlled the pace of rallies. He put up superb show of quality badminton and reached at 11-4 until the break.
After the break, Saensomboonsuk tried to elevate his level of play but failed to impress the crowd as his higher ranked challenger was on a different level. He executed wonderful strokes in the right areas and extended his lead.
Saensomboonsuk was no match to Lee Hyun, who was progressing in an incredible pace. The Korean ended the second game with a 21-12 score on the board.
The overall margin of this Men’s Singles battle was 21-16 and 21-12.
