Thomas Danielson wins the second stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge 2012
Thomas Danielson of Team Garmin-Sharp wins the second stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge after his tremendous performance during the 210 kilometre race.
The American completed the race in an impressive time of 5 hours, 2 minutes and 6 seconds and restricted his major opponents.
Damiano Caruso of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Jakob Fuglsang of Team RadioShack-Nissan, Gavin Mannion of Team Bontrager Livestrong finishing at the second, third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
"We came up with some crazy plans and fortunately we had the legs," said Danielson. "Our team is pretty strong here and it was a lot of fun to pull it off today”.
“The last kilometre I knew I had won but with 2km to go I didn't think I was going to win and honestly what went through my mind was my wife yelling at me saying 'don't ever look back!”
Team BMC Sports Director Mike Sayers appreciated Matthias Frank’s performance that helped his side with a much-needed performance at the race.
"Mathias got back on the downhill, then, like he does at every race, he went straight to the front and buried himself,” Mathias told Cyclingnews.
The 34-year-old bagged the first stage of the season during the Tour of Utah when he succeeded during the team’s time trial stage 2 of the Tour of Utah.
He finished third overall at the Tour of California, seventh at the Tour de Suisse and occupied the 11th overall position during the Tour of Utah 2012.
Jesse Anthony of Team Optum p/b Benefit Strategies succeeded during the first Sprint of the race while David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Sharp wins the sprint 2 of the event.
Christian Vande Velde leads the stage 2 classifications with Tejay Van Garderen, Ivan Rovny, Levi Leipheimer and Ramiro Rincon occupying the next four spots.
