Denmark’s talented young shuttlers Thomas Dew Hattens and Mathias Kany have made their mark as they have claimed the Men’s Doubles title after defeating Iceland’s Magnus Ingi Helgason and Helgi Johannesson in the title match of the Iceland International
2011, in Iceland, on Sunday, November 13.
The Danish pair played to their full potential and won the battle against the top seed local opponents after putting up superb show of top quality badminton for three games. They took just 41 minutes to tame their opponents and bagged the crown in an impressive
manner.
The first set of the match was absolutely wonderful when both sides remained toe-to-toe in the opening rallies. However, the Danish shuttlers made a few mistakes and let their opponents dominate the game. They lost the opening set with a margin of 16-21
in just 14 minutes.
In the second game, the Danish duo came back in an impressive manner as they put up strong show of top quality badminton. They remained successful in setting up a comfortable gap until the one-minute break.
After the break, the Danish pair accelerated their speed and executed powerful smashes coupled with the strong pushes and net killings. The top seeded local shuttlers failed to play well as the visitors controlled the pace of the game. The Danish duo won
the second game with a 21-12 margin in just 12 minutes.
The third game of this fight was close in the opening half when both pairs put up wonderful show of top quality badminton. However, the Danish players controlled the pace and started to build lead. Until the break, they established a superb gap by leading
with an 11-7 margin.
After the break, the Danish duo played positive badminton and avoided unforced errors by remaining focused in the game. They maintained pressure on their rivals throughout the deciding game by playing with an aggressive approach.
The better planning and effective execution of Danish players earned them victory in this set with a margin of 21-16 by taking just 15 minutes of the court time.
The title match ended up with the victory of Danish shuttlers by the 16-21, 21-12 and 21-16 margin on the score board.
