Thomas Fraser-Holmes pockets Men’s 400m IM gold: Day one – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Thomas Fraser-Holmes of Miami pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Thursday, March 15.
The 20-year-old Fraser-Holmes outshined his challengers in the distant IM swim and proved his qualification into the Australian squad for the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
He faced strong competition from Daniel Tranter of SOPAC, who tried to overwhelm him on the finishing end for gold medal, but failed to substantiate his quest for the title and ended second.
The 20-year-old Tranter stayed prominent for top spot in the first round of the race, where he clocked a time of 57.50 seconds. His blistering performance in the first round remained 0.09 seconds ahead of Fraser-Holmes, who ended his first round with the
timing of 57.59 seconds.
Subsequently, the crowd witnessed immaculate efforts of Fraser-Holmes, who went rampant in the second round and concluded his initial 200 metres of the swim with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.50 seconds. His splendid effort stayed 2.33 seconds away from
Tranter, who covered the equivalent distance by ending his first half in a time of 2 minutes and 03.83 seconds.
Fraser-Holmes continued his stunning performance in the third round, where he proved his supremacy by submitting an effort of 3 minutes and 13.30 seconds. His scintillating struggle remained 1.65 seconds ahead of Tranter, who enveloped the same distance
by hitting the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 14.95 seconds.
With his continuous efforts in the final round, Fraser-Holmes earned his way to the podium for gold medal by finishing his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 11.81 seconds. He was trailed by Tranter, who proved his eligibility for silver medal of the discipline
as he tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 4 minutes and 16.38 seconds.
Similarly, Mitch Larkin of St Peters Western Swim Club seized bronze medal of the discipline by clocking 4 minutes and 18.38 seconds.
Furthermore, Fraser-Holmes stimulated hopes of his supporters by expressing that he will try to do the same at the upcoming Olympics.
