Thomas Hearns believes Pacquiao and Mayweather should go for it – Boxing News
Thomas ‘The Hitman’ Hearns believes Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather should keep their grudges aside and go for the super-bout their fans have been waiting for. Thomas in a recent interview said they both need to “put it all on the line and go for it.”
Thomas has been a gift to the boxing world since he helped shaping the sport to what it is now. Back in the 80s, Thomas was among the best. Some of his most notable performances have been against Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran.
Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather was near its final stages just when the chips fell apart. Floyd Mayweather will now be facing Miguel Cotto on May 5 while Manny Pacquiao will be facing Timothy Bradley on June 9. This topic has become the centre of attention
for nearly everyone who loves boxing including former boxers, current boxers, analysts and fans. Therefore, it is not a surprise to see renowned pugilists like Hearns comment on the issue.
Talking about the ‘Mayweather and Pacquiao’ situation, Hearns remarked, “We believed in taking on all comers. Every fight wasn't necessarily a good fight, but to us we knew we had to take the fight in order to move on. If we didn't take a fight, we couldn't
move ahead. We knew we had to perform because if we didn't do that, another man would get up on us. We never wanted anybody to have the upper hand over us. You wanted to have the upper hand."
He further added that he is really frustrated over the fact that Mayweather and Pacquiao did not reach a final decision before the dialogues collapsed. He said he is grateful that he never missed any great bouts during his era which, according to him, is
something Pacquiao and Mayweather doing.
Hearns took the opportunity to compare today’s pugilists with the fighters of his time. He said that it is important to make fights like Pacquiao vs. Mayweather happen to keep fans entertain and to always give them something better than the previous one
so that they do not lose interest in the sport.
