at middleweight. A bit of a wildcard matchup but I'm interested in your opinions.

  1. Jake LaMotta was a very rugged and tough fighter.  He hit hard but was not a knockout puncher.  Of course he is known for having an iron chin.  Hearns is a very hard puncher particularly as a welterweight and a very quick handed boxer with an excellent jab.  LaMotta would bear in looking to land body and head shots on the inside.  Hearns would box him using his excellent jab.  He would land some hard shots on LaMotta who would shake them off.  This would be a competitive and close fight and LaMotta would close strongly as he had superior endurance and win the last few rounds.  Hearns would do just enough to win a split decision.

  2. I think at middle. . . . . Hearns slows down a bit.  His punches are still really hard. . .but he doesn't have the same "freakish" height advantage at middle that he had at welter.

LaMotta had a granite chin and could throw bombs with either hand.  He also fought a lot more OFTEN than Hearns per year. . .which could be a factor.

I think if they were to fight ten times. . . . LaMotta would outlast Hearns six times.  But the four wins for Hearns would be dramatically killer. . . .and he might even drop the undroppable Raging Bull!

  3. Thomas Hearns is really good and hard to beat he would knock Jake LaMotta out.

  4. At Middleweight I like Jake to break the Hitman down by 10 rounds by getting inside and wearing him down.

  5. hearns in 3

  6. I love ''The Hitman'' and grew up following his awesome career. He had height, one of the best jabs in boxing history, tremendous speed, and one of the hardest rights in boxing history. But a shaky chin and unpredictable stamina.

Jake LaMotta  didn't have one punch power but wore opponents down with his relentless pressure. And as we know one of the hardest chins in history and stamina like a racehorse.

The last two about LaMotta I stated IMO would be the deciding factor in this dream fight, Hearns faded badly against Leonard in both their fights ( even though I thought Hearns won the rematch), Hagler ( Hagler's overhand left didn't help) and Barkley. He would often punch himself out because of his speed and aggressive fighting.

I feel this fight would go one of two ways, Hearns boxes and keeps LaMotta away with the jab but wears down from the pressure and is stopped late or loses a dec.

The other scenario which is more likely, is that it would be a repeat of Hagler - Hearns with bombs away by both fighters. I really cant see LaMotta going down in either fight, but if Hearns were to go toe to toe with him Jake would win by 5th round kayo. Great match up!

  7. Jack is a naturally middleweight who had a great chin. He will weather the storm early and come back and KO Hearns just like Iran Barkley did.

  8. hearns builds up an early lead, but la motta is as relentless as ever and never gives up and eventually stops the hitman in 9 rounds.

  9. Thomas Hearns may best be remembered for that big right hand, and there is no denying he was a knockout artist, but what a lot of people forget was that he was also a gifted boxer.  Lamotta was rugged and tough, just about as tough as they come, but I agree with toughguy, Hearns would have kept Lamatta on the end of that jab, moved enough to avoid any serious exchanges along the ropes and won a decision.
