The former Bayern Munich boss feels that the club do not need Edin Dzeko this summer as they already have enough quality in their ranks.
The Bavarian giants have been active in this summer’s transfer window and have already acquired the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Pizarro-c9324. There have been widespread reports that the club are also in the
race to sign Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko to add more quality to their attack.
Hitzfeld, who is currently the manager of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 national team, claimed that Bayern Munich already have the likes of Mario Gomez and Claudio Pizarro in their ranks to lead the attack and he feels that there is no need
to buy another striker.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss added that the team also has Nils Petersen in the squad, who can provide a good backup so there is no reason to invest millions in acquiring another top attacker.
“Dzeko? I think Bayern already have enough strikers with the arrival of [Claudio] Pizarro, and with [Nils] Petersen staying put. It's not necessary to sign another top striker,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The chief insisted that Bayern play a 4-2-3-1 formation and Mario Gomez will certainly lead the attack as the lone striker considering his sensational form for the side in the last two years. He stressed that in an event of an
injury, the Bavarians have the likes of Pizarro and Petersen so Dzeko would definitely be a surplus to requirements.
“That is unless the trainer decided to switch to a formation with two forwards. However, Bayern already have Gomez in their current 4-2-3-1 formation, with Pizarro as back-up. Another high-profile forward wouldn't even get to play,”
he continued.
Hitzfeld also voiced his opinion on rumours that Pep Guardiola will take over the club as manager from next season. He insisted that it would be great for Bayern as the Spaniard has proved his mettle with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
“If you can sign him and he'd feel comfortable to train the team in their own language, it would be a good thing,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich ended the season in second place in the Bundesliga behind Borussia Dortmund.
