VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of former West Ham United midfielder, Thomas Hitzlsperger. The German has signed a three-year deal with the club that will keep him at Volkswagen Arena until 2014.
The news came moments after the player was reported to be seen training at the White Hart Lane alongside Tottenham Hotspur squad. It was earlier speculated that the midfielder would join the Spurs or a fellow English Premier League side.
Hitzlsperger represented West Ham during the 2010/11 season but failed to make any major impact as the Hammers got relegated in the end. The 29-year-old’s contract ran out at the end of the last term and the player was rendered a free agent.
A host of premier league outfits seemed interested in the signature of the German, but Hitzlsperger eventually decided to return back to his homeland and play for Die Wolfe, who are looking to improve on their league position from the last campaign.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 player was delighted with his move and vowed to be at his best during this season. The player wished to bring back the Bundesliga glory days back to the club.
While talking to the reporters, Hitzlsperger added, "I am overjoyed that the transfer has gone through. This is the beginning of a great partnership. The club has big ambitions and a coach who epitomises this.”
“I am looking forward to being part of the team, already know some of the players who I have played with at club or international level. I am highly motivated and very very happy to take up the challenge." He concluded.
Die Wolfe manager Felix Magath, was pleased with the arrival of the experienced midfielder. He wished him success with his new journey and guaranteed him a place in the starting line-up. The manager concluded by saying, "Thomas is a player who will help
us with his professional approach and his international experience. I am pleased that he is now with us, because he is a player who can lead the team."
The left footed player will make his debut for the club on Friday, August 19, when Wolfsburg take on Borussia Monchengladbach away from home.
