Thomas Levet stands at second place after two rounds
It was an eventful full day at the Austrian Open. There were some excellent performances, along with weather interruption. A few of the house hold names faded away, while some are well poised for the final two days.
As usual, Jacob Olesen continued his good run of form at the Austrian Open. In the first round, he equalled the course record by shooting 64 and in the second, a steady 2-under 69 meant that he was leading the tournament by three shots.
Following him is the Frenchman, Thomas Levet. Levet shot a par score in the second round to come up at the second spot.
It was a decent performance by the Frenchman. He has been struggling a little bit with his game. If Levet can manage to pull off a victory or a top-5 finish, it would be a big result for him.
The conditions were very tough on Thursday, with strong winds all around the course. First round’s co-leader Pablo Larrazabal could not adjust according to the conditions. On the front nine, Larrazabal was 2-over until the rain hit the venue.
The performance of the day came from none other than the young Dane, whose putting was absolutely sublime. He made numerous 20-foot putts, especially the putts on the fourth and fifth were really amazing.
He was extremely happy after his second round show. "There was quite a strong wind out there at times," he told.
"I struggled a bit round the turn and hit a few bad drives, but I managed to hit some good shots coming home, so I am happy to get in on 12 under par. It is been a long day, but a very good one".
The Frenchman however, must come out strong in the third round if he aims to overtake Olesen at the top.
Later on Thursday, there was a severe storm that stuck the area. The good news was that majority of the players had finished their rounds. Some, however, could not complete theirs.
Play will resume early morning on Friday, in order to remove the back log. It will be interesting to see how things go about on Friday. The winds will play an important role.
