Thomas Lovkvist positive to have a fresh start with Team IAM in 2013
Thomas Lovkvist’s stay with the British side, Team Sky has been a disappointment which is the main reason why the team has not extended with him for 2013 season.
The cyclist accepted an offer from the professional continental side, Team IAM to continue his professional goals and is optimistic to take his performance to the next level in the team’s debut season.
Lovkvist marked his professional debut with Team FDJeux.com in 2004 and stayed with the team by the end of 2007 before putting pen to paper with Team High Road in 2008.
His time with the American side was the peak of his career as he helped the side with several top performances through 2008-09 seasons.
The Swede accepted a three-year contract with the British outfit, Team Sky and has not really been up to the task since his joining with the team.
He has not bagged a single victory in the past three seasons and his only commendable performances in the past years including a second place finish at the Strade Bianche, sixth overall at the Tour de Limousin and 17th overall at the Tour de France 2010.
Thomas finished sixth overall at the Vuelta a Andalucia, achieved the tenth overall spot at the Tirreno-Adriatico 2011 and occupied the eighth overall position at the Criterium International 2012.
"I feel it is time for a change. They presented a project for me, and it sounded very interesting. I'm glad to get there, and I think it will be a good team, “he told feltet.dk.
“I will have a free role and I think it will be a good opportunity for me”.
“I still have the ambition to win one-week races such as the Tour of Romandie or the Tour de Suisse. That is definitely one of my big goals”.
“But it will be built up slowly; management is sensitive and does not make a lot of noise".
The full Team IAM cycling squad for its debut season is as under,
Marcel Aregger, Marco Bandiera, Matthias Brandle, Rémi Cusin, Stefan Denifl, Martin Elmiger, Jonathan Fumeaux, Kristoff Goddaert, Heinrich Haussler, Sébastien Hinault and Reto Hollenstein.
Kevyn Ista, Dominic Klemme, Permin Lang, Gustav Larsson, Thomas Löfkvist, Matteo Pelucchi, Alexandr Pliuschin, Sébastien Reichenbach, Aleksejs Saramotins, Patrick Schelling, Johann Tschopp and Marcel Wyss.
