Thomas Luchsinger dominates Men’s 200m butterfly heats – US Open Swimming Championships
Thomas Luchsinger of Three Village Swim Club dominated the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m butterfly on initial day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 7.
The 21-year-old Luchsinger won the hearts of his supporters as he dominated the distant butterfly discipline. With his astonishing speed, he showed no mercy to his opponents and made his way to the wall for fastest qualification spot of the event.
Luchsinger remained one stroke ahead of his following swimmer and hit the finishing wall for first position by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.61 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained 0.27 seconds ahead of Iain Macmillan of Stockport ITC, who proved his mettle for second fastest spot of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 59.88 seconds.
Macmillan was followed by Kyle Whitaker of University of Michigan, who remained only 0.06 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade as third fastest swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 59.94 seconds.
Subsequently, Whitaker was chased by Matthew Johnson of Great Britain, who stayed a half body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.50 seconds for fourth position.
Johnson was traced by Kyler Van Swol of Minnesota Aquatics, who remained just 0.13 seconds away from upsetting his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 2 minutes and 00.63 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth finest spot of the event was obtained by Adam Hinshaw of Palo Alto Stanford, who was only 0.01 seconds behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 00.64 seconds to enter the playoff.
Hinshaw was followed by Dominick Glavich of YMCA of the Tria, who finished his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 00.70 seconds for seventh position.
Similarly, eighth best qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Michael Flach of Carolina Aquatics, who clocked a time of 2 minutes and 00.75 seconds.
Luchsinger was overjoyed with his fastest qualification in the discipline and expressed that he would try his best to sustain his spot in the final round.
