Thomas Luchsinger earns Men’s 200m butterfly gold – US Open Swimming Championships
Thomas Luchsinger of Three Village Swim Club earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on foremost day of the 2012 US Open Swimming Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 7.
The 21-year-old Luchsinger, who qualified into the playoff as fastest butterfly swimmer, lived up to the expectations of his fans by clinching gold medal of the event.
He remained considerably ahead of his following swimmer throughout the discipline and showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.51 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Michael Flach of Carolina Aquatics, who stunned the aquatic crowd by winning silver medal of the race in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 58.40 seconds.
Flach remained 0.32 seconds faster from Iain Macmillan of Stockport ITC, who appeared on the finishing end as third best finisher with a nice effort of 1 minute and 58.72 seconds.
Macmillan was followed by Kyle Whitaker, of University of Michigan, who qualified as the third fastest swimmer in the final round, but failed to reach the podium and finished fourth in the event with a timing of 1 minute and 58.95 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Adam Hinshaw of Palo Alto Stanford, who remained exactly one second behind and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 59.95 seconds.
Similarly, Hinshaw was chased by Matthew Johnson of Great Britain, who stayed 0.01 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted an effort of 1 minute and 59.96 seconds for sixth position.
Johnson was chased by Dominick Glavich of YMCA of the Tria, who was 0.70 seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.66 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Kyler Van Swol of Minnesota Aquatics, who failed to surpass any of his opponents and finished his race in a time of 2 minutes and 01.09 seconds.
In addition, Luchsinger received a huge round of applause from the crowd for his victory at the medal ceremony of the tournament.
