Thomas Lurz secures gold medal of Men’s 10km swim – 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup, Shantou
Thomas Lurz won the gold medal of Men’s 10km race on the sixth stop of the Federation Internationale de Natation organised 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup (MSWC) on Sunday, September 25, in Shantou, China.
The German long distant veteran, Lurz presented a relentless effort in the respective swim and occupied the title of the event in a time of 1 hour, 54 minutes and 22.95 seconds. Lurz occupied bronze medal of the same discipline at the 2008 Beijing Olympic
Games. Later on, Lurz earned gold medal of 5km discipline, silver medal in 10km swim and a bronze in 5km team event swim at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.
The German expert was trailed by Zu Lijun of China, who remained just 0.24 seconds slower than him and reached the podium for silver medal, by submitting an effort of 1 hour, 54 minutes and 23.19 seconds. Lijun was trailed by his team-member, Zhang Zibing,
who remained 3.67 seconds behind the silver medallist and secured the podium for bronze medal, with a timing of 1 hour, 54 minutes and 26.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Chad Ho of South Africa crossed the finishing line with an effort of 1 hour, 54 minutes and 29.75 seconds. The fifth position of the event was earned by Spyridon Gianniotis of Greece, who was only 0.24 seconds slower than his former finisher
and ended up fifth with an effort 1 hour, 54 minutes and 29.99 seconds.
The sixth spot of the race was secured by Lurz’s team-mate, Andreas Waschburger, who was 1.16 seconds slower than his former finisher and clocked a time of 1 hour, 54 minutes and 31.15 seconds. Michael Dmitriev of Israel and Christian Reichert of Germany
were sighted as the seventh and eighth position holders of the 10km swim, as they crossed the finishing line and posted timings of 1:54:31.65 and 1:54:33.62 hours, respectively.
Furthermore, Lurz was very pleased with his victory, while the German swimmer expressed his desire of repeating the same performance at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
