Thomas Lurz wins Men’s 10km Open Water gold: Day one – European Open Water Swimming Championships
One of the most dazzling German Open Water athletes, Thomas Lurz claimed the gold medal of Men’s 10km swim on the primary day of the 2011 European Open Water Swimming Championships on Wednesday, September 7, in Eilat, Israel.
Lurz presented his dominating efforts in the Open Water discipline by surpassing the finishing line in a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 18.2 seconds. With his gold winning efforts, he maintained a lead of 1.80 seconds over his subsequent competitor, Vladimir
Dyatchin of Russia, who stepped on the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 20.0 seconds.
In the meantime, Igor Snitko of Ukraine earned third fastest swimmer of the 10km event, as he remained 1.50 seconds behind the silver medallist and completed his swim in a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 21.5 seconds.
The phenomenal German swimmer clinched the silver medal of the same event at the 2011 World Championships, in Shanghai. Furthermore, the 31-year-old Lurz also claimed the bronze medal of the 10km swim at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Nonetheless, the medal winners of the race were trailed by Evgeny Drattsev of Russia, who remained 3.5 seconds behind his former finisher and earned fourth position with a timing of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 25.0 seconds. Similarly, Drattsev managed a lead
of 1.10 seconds over his following swimmer, Nicola Bolzonello of Italy, who earned fifth rank of the swim with a timing of 1 hour, 53 minute and 26.1 seconds.
Meanwhile, the sixth place was obtained by Francisco Jose Hervas of Spain, as he touched the finishing wall in the respective meet and posted a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes and 26.3 seconds. Stoychev Petar of Bulgaria and Csaba Gercsak of Hungary were sighted
as the seventh and eighth fastest finishers, with timings of 1:53:26.7 and 1:53:28.8 hours, respectively.
The session ended after the completion of all scheduled events, while the winners collected their medals and accolades for their performances after the meet’s completion.
