Thomas Muller admits to Bayern Munich’s troubles
Bayern Munich’s striker Thomas Muller has admitted that his club is not doing well this season. However, the German international is confident that his side will bounce back from their poor form and will be ready again to challenge
for trophies.
Bayern are currently 7th in the German Bundesliga after 15 rounds of matches. The leaders, Borussia Dortmund are now on 40 points, 17 points ahead of the defending German champions. Munich lost 2-0 while playing away
against Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga on Sunday, their 4th league defeat of the campaign.
Bayern’s European form has been much better as they sit on top of Group E of the UEFA Champions League. They have secured qualification into the round-of-16 of the competition after scoring 9 points from 5 games.
Muller, in an interview said, “Things haven't been going too well, and that's true for me personally as well. I just tried to stay calm and didn't look at things too dramatically. It's normal that things don't always go as
they did during the World Cup. You find yourself back to your normal life and you can experience a loss of form, especially young players like me. But I always give my best and don't let myself get dragged down by critics."
Bayern play their next match in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena against Swiss minnows FC Basel on Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old is confident that his team will do its best to emulate the success of last season, where they managed to finish as the runners-up of the competition.
He said, "We hope we can go a long way in the competition again. Last season we had a critical moment in Florence and in Manchester we were 3-0 down, but we were very strong mentally. This season we've been mentally very solid
as well, but once you get to the quarter-finals or semi-finals of the Champions League, it's all down to details because all the teams are very strong and you just need a bit of luck."
Thomas is also full of praise for his manager Louis van Gaal, under whom he has emerged from a Bayern youth player to a world-class footballer. According to Bayern’s no.25, Luis has not only helped him in honing his skills, but
also added to his knowledge of the game.
Last season, Muller won the German Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal Cup and the silver medal in the UEFA Champions League. The striker continued his fine form in the FIFA World Cup this summer and won the Golden Boot award and Best Young
Player award in South Africa.
At only 21 years of age, Thomas Muller has achieved a lot as a professional player and he is destined to record his name as one of the greatest Germans to embrace the game.
