Thomas ‘Musters’ 1st round win against Leonardo Mayer – Todi Challenger 2011
Firing of with the most anticipated match of the evening, Tuesday, 13th September, Thomas Muster, the Austrian legend, opted not to give up and went crashing into the 1st round of the Todi Challenger 2011
to face Leonardo Mayer. Expected an easy loss, Muster still pushed on and there he went with a set down, the oldest player came back up with a startling performance winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 in just 2 hours and 2 minutes.
The 43-year-old Austrian puts forward the real meaning of never giving up. Losing in previous 10 matches; Muster finally won his first match against a tough competitor. The former world No.1 showed his competence getting back up
after a he went down a set early in the game.
The fiery match lighted up as Muster opened up the starter and the scoreboard, 1-0. Levelling up the scores next, the world No.119 won game 2 and switched back the serve.  Breaking the 43-year-old, Mayer extended his lead outgunning
game 3 and followed by winning on his serve in game 4.
Muster held strong but could not break back. With scores at 4-2 after game 6, the 24-year-old eased away with 2 more service games to bag the set 6-4 and take the match lead.
Moving on with the second set, Muster once again took the opening game and lead 1-0. Mayer followed up levelling the scores till game 6 before breaking the old dog in game 7 and taking the lead, 4-3. The Austrian pulled back when
he served game 9, cutting back the lead to 4-5 and levelled up breaking the Argentine on his serve in game 10, 5-5.
The 43-year-old reignited his historical winnings when he stormed game 11 on his serve and broke the 24-year-old once again in the final game of the set, game 12, blistering the world No.119 7-5 and levelling the match scores,
1-1.
With the final set on its way, the Austrian got another chance to take the advantage lead serving first. Winning game 1, Muster was marvellous from there on. Breaking the Argentine in game 2 and winning the next on his serve, Muster
captivated a 3 games lead and commanded the set.
Mayer finally got away with a game to cut the lead to 1-3, however, could not break back and lagged behind as Muster hampered the young 24-year-old again to extend his lead to 4-1.  Serving out game 7, the Austrian went down on
his knees with his hands up after he broke the final game of the match, winning the set 6-2 and the match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, making his way into the 2nd round.
The Austrian's fantastic win well described a struggling man with a never ending faith. Sitting in the 2nd round comfortably, the former world No.1 will now play his compatriot, Martin Fischer, for a spot in the quarterfinals.
