Thomas Oosthuizen takes on Serge Yannick with title on the line in a 12-round bout – Boxing news
Thomas Oosthuizen, the current International Boxing Organisation (IBO) super middleweight champion, will enter his fourth title defence bout, this time against Aussie Serge Yannick, the PABA super middleweight champion, in a 12-round encounter on March 3,
2012.
The duo will headline Saturday night's event which is presented by Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions and the ring will be set up at Emperor’s Palace situated in Kempton Park, Gauteng, South Africa. The event will be co-headlined by the 12-round clash
between Kaizer Mabuza and Steven Wills in the junior welterweight division.
Thomas and Serge both are considered as the top ranked pugilists in the division and though do not possess a hefty resume yet have grasped many titles in such a short career. Thomas, infamous as ‘Tommy Gun’, has been in a total 18 brawls and remains undefeated.
He has one draw decision in his resume against Isaac Chilemba.
The 23-year-old Thomas is ranked seventh in World Boxing Association’s rankings and is considered as the second best pugilist in South Africa. The young lad has proudly owned the vacant IBO youth light heavyweight title and also the WBA Pan African Super
middleweight title.
He grasped his super middleweight gold from Evert Bravo by totally knocking him out in the ninth round of the 12-round bout and since then has successfully defended his title against William Gare, Aaron Pryor Junior, and Francisco Sierra.
Tommy Gun’s opponent will be the Australian Serge who has been in a total 15 bouts and has lost just one against Michael Bolling. Yannick has also won many other titles in his small career. He has proudly held Australia-Victoria State super middleweight,
and the WBA Pan African super middleweight titles.
Thomas has collected 12 of his total wins by knockout and Yannick has knocked just seven opponents out. The knockout efficiency of both men shows that Oosthuizen has a clear upper hand over Serge but the latter is being denoted as a resilient brawler who
does not forfeit the bout easily.
Serge is considered as the third best Aussie in super middleweight division and ranks 29th in world rankings. His main accomplishment is a split decision win over Shannon Taylor which makes him a somewhat tough opponent for Thomas. The South African Thomas
will not only defend his title but also his undefeated winning streak.
