The Werder Bremen manager is aiming for a place in Europe at the end of next season and is confident that he has a strong team at his disposal.
Die Werderaner had a mixed season last term as they ended in ninth place with 42 points from the 34 games played. The team started the campaign brilliantly but the second half of the season constituted of a series of dismal displays.
Werder Bremen have seen two of their most consistent players from the last season depart this summer but Thomas Schaaf is confident that the side will manage to secure a place in Europe at the end of the upcoming campaign. Marko
Marin and Claudio Pizarro joined the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Bayern Munich in this summer’s transfer window.
However, the former Bundesliga champions have been busy in the transfer market and have acquired some decent players as a replacement to Marin and Pizarro. The likes of Nils Petersen, Assani Lukimya and Gebre Selassie joined the
Weserstadion and will be part of the squad for the next season.
Schaaf is confident that Werder Bremen will qualify for Europe at the end of the 2012-13 season and wants to return to either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League after a span of two years.
“Of course we want to play in Europe again. We have high expectations and want to achieve a lot of things. We need to gel quickly and get more out of each player. I'm convinced we have a good team,” he was quoted as saying in an
interview.
The manager admitted that the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Pizarro-c9324 is a great loss but expressed his confidence in the current lot of players at the club. He claimed that important players have left Bremen previously but
the side has managed to comeback impressively.
“We need to get back to consistently playing at a high level. We're on the right track and need to push ourselves now. Important players have left the club in the past and we've managed to perform well nevertheless,” he concluded.
Werder Bremen have a tough Bundesliga opener against Borussia Dortmund on August 24.
