The Werder Bremen manager has expressed his disappointment after losing at home to the O-Fives and is unsure of the team’s chances of qualifying for Europe.
Werder Bremen tactician, Thomas Schaaf, has admitted that his side were below-par against Mainz at the weekend. He was talking in the wake of Bremen’s 3-0 loss at home to Thomas Tuchel’s men on Saturday, March 31, at the Weserstadion.

The manager enthused that this defeat is unacceptable especially while playing at home against a relegation-threatened side. He stated that Bremen started the game on a high and should have scored at least once in the first 15
minutes. The boss admitted that his side lost the plot completely after conceding on the 19th minute mark.
Schaaf admitted that this loss has done no good to his team’s European hopes as they fall down to the eighth spot behind Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Hannover. While talking to official Bundesliga website, the manager further
added:
“We're very disappointed as we expected more from the match, much more bite. In the first 15 minutes we did well - the only thing missing was a goal, but we lost our heads after going behind. We played badly and therefore the defeat
is justified.”
On the other hand, Mainz manager, Thomas Tuchel showed his delight after upsetting The River Islanders. He mused that his side played professionally and never seemed perturbed by the fact that they were playing away from home.
He hailed Choupo-Moting’s performance who bagged a brace after coming on as a second-half substitute for Szalai.
“We respected Werder a lot and that's why we're happy we were able to go in front and add to our lead thanks to the substitutions. We were rewarded for a committed performance as we were livelier and harder working,” Tuchel concluded.
Bremen will next be up against FC Koln while Mainz will travel to Stuttgart on Saturday, April 7. A win for Mainz could also put them in contention for a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League.
